Lukas Radiomodul is a musician and radio producer based in Berlin, working between experimental electronics, ambient music and free sound exploration. He regularly releases albums with the quartet Reichenhall and produces the monthly radio show “Radio Modul – early & modern electronic music”, which combines guided sonic journeys with experimental music mixes.

His first recordings were made at the age of ten, when he used a cassette recorder to create sound collages from noises, voices and improvised music.

Since the early 1990s, he has been active in the electronic music scene – first through self-produced mixtapes, later as a DJ and event organizer. After moving to Berlin in 2005, he initiated several radio projects and eventually founded the platform Radio Modul, through which he broadcast special concert recordings and electronic music.

Today, his work continues to explore the space between ambient music, experimental electronics, improvisation and radio art.

Latest release: Reichenhall – Konzert für Zikaden:

“Konzert für Zikaden” (Concert for Cicadas) was created during my stay in Šibenik from unpublished sound fragments of earlier recordings featuring Bernhard Wöstheinrich, Volker Lankow, Mathieu Sylvestre, and myself.

The sequences were looped live; the only listeners were the cicadas in the adjacent garden. Different groups of cicadas synchronized their calling patterns, while others, just a few meters away, followed slightly different rhythms. The live set remained at a steady 91 bpm. Depending on the species, cicada calling patterns often range from two to four pulses per second.

This created brief moments of rhythmic synchrony between the individual cicada groups and the music before the rhythms drifted apart again. The day the album was released, the cicadas’ song had finally reached the intensity that characterizes the Dalmatian summer.
